"RECRUIT
THE RIGHT PERSON, NOT JUST THE RIGHT CANDIDATE"
» Your
Problem..?
Businesses are experiencing a growing problem - despite
using the latest interviewing styles and even psychometric tests,
many still aren't satisfied either with the candidates they select
for interview or (more importantly) in the longer term with the
people they end up recruiting. Unfortunately it can take up to
three months for this realisation to hit home as this is the average
length of time someone can manage to 'fit the mould' before the
real person underneath begins to leak out. (Why do you think many
recruitment agencies only offer a few months guarantee..?)
The problem occurs because many candidates, especially at a professional
level, know what kind of answers interviewers are looking for
- some may even have been coached in interview techniques too!
So, all too often we hear the same kind of answers from everyone,
simply because an interviewee's purpose in being there is not
the same as yours - they want the job you're offering so they
need you to believe they're the right person, even if they're
not.
» The
Solution
Using a set of fairly simple tools based on conversation
and observation you will be able to cut through the clever
answers and polished performances to the person underneath, to
find out what makes them really tick.
For example, would it be valuable for you to know how long
someone is likely to stay with your company or remain motivated
in the same role? Or whether they are a natural team player,
despite what they might say? What about whether this person is
truly client-focused even if they have history in sales?

Here's just some of the comments we received after a recent one-day
intensive workshop:
|
"A superb day. Exceeded my expectations. A very
clear and practical presentation of some complex theory.
I used Steve's techniques immediately after the training
day in an interview, and was able to form an objective opinion
of the candidate faster, and I'm sure more accurately, than
I've ever done before."
[Stuart
Kellner, Managing Director, Dufton-Kellner Ltd., Wirral]
"A well constructed, informative and interactive day
that will prove to be very useful in helping support my
team achieve even better results."

Shrimpling, Derbyshire]

When you use these techniques well, you'll be able to understand
who they really are from how the candidate answers your
questions (not just what they say) - a set of characteristics
that are very difficult to obtain any other way. And it all takes
place within the conversation in the interview!

A bit more about Language
The principles behind 'Recruiting Success' are taken
from Neuro-Linguistic Programming, specifically what's known as
the 'Metaprograms' model.
Metaprograms are the mental and emotional filters
and rules we use to make sense of the world and interact with it.
These filters work in both directions, i.e. affecting information
from the outside world as we take it in and process it, and affecting
how we use information and intention from our internal world and
present it as words and behaviours to the rest of the world.
Because of the way these filters (which are largely
if not totally unconscious by the way!) work, the language we use
to describe the world contains embedded clues to the way they are
constructed.
In other words, by listening to how people answer
specific 'clean' questions, we can gather evidence for what makes
them tick and gain an insight into aspects of their minds that they
might not even be aware of themselves.
Powerful? You bet it is!
And it's learnable too, which makes it a very, very
valuable tool to be able to use. |
